Scripture Passage for Today
Scripture Focus
“But the blood on your doorposts will serve as a sign, marking the houses where you are staying. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. This plague of death will not touch you when I strike the land of Egypt.” (Exodus 12:13 NLT)
Observation
Like a great symphony, this series of duels between Moses and Pharaoh (or more accurately, between Yahweh—Israel’s God—and the gods of the Egyptians) grows and swells towards a final climactic confrontation. How powerful is Yahweh—able to match and then far exceed any of the Egyptian gods! And yet, how gracious! Ten times (including the initial offer before any plague occurred) God has given Pharaoh the opportunity to do the right thing—and each time, Pharaoh has grown increasingly resistant. Now, God will strike a final blow.
But God provides a way of escape—and one that is a powerful prophecy of our deliverance in Christ. A specifically selected, watched-over, spotless lamb is to be slaughtered, and the blood used to mark the homes of those who would be passed over by the death angel.
In every detail there is significance—more than time and space allows for writing about here. But again today, I marvel that my redemption was no afterthought on Gods part. Thousands of years ago, deep in the story of Egyptian history, the story of my redemption was already being told! And the Lamb, whose blood would cover me, was already chosen, and ready to pay the ultimate price for my redemption.
It is remarkable beyond words.

The final blow! God is powerful and amazing! God is an awesome God!
Yes, the Passover was the first ‘Fast Food’ (Exodus 12:11) – you had to eat it on the run!! The question is – will we be ready to go when he says to come!
Sometimes I dont understand why God doesnt do what He did during Moses time and show hisself more in a world of such sinfulness thank God He sent his son Jesus to die for us I dont know where I wpould be today I get so tired dealing with satan and His games I have to call on God to help.
Your right Preacher I am so glad that God had a plan back then for our salvation by the Lamb of God Jesus thank you Lord for all you do.
Hey everyone: Here are some questions I'd like addressed in S.S. Why was God going to kill Moses just because his son wasn't circumcised (Ex 4:24) Why is circumcision so important? Also, only circumcised men could eat of the passover lamb. When God hardened Pharaoh's heart, it would seem that Pharaoh had no free will to make his own decision. And, lastly cattle were killed twice in Egypt and yet Ex.12:29 says the first born of livestock died. How could there be any left to die?
To the last anonymous questioner about Pharoah seeming to not have free will, I would like to respond with the fact that in the Garden of Eden (Gen 1:26-28), is where one of the first gifts God gave us was the free reign to make our own decisions to 'subdue it: and have dominion...'. If he didn't do that he would not have loved us perfectly. So to discount free will (the power to make our own choices) would be like saying God is not perfect in His love for us.
Also, I don't want to go too deep into the theology of it (because I couldn't) but wasn't circumcision a type and symbol in the old testament of being 'cut-off' from the sins of the world? Today we have Salvation through the blood of Christ being poured out for our sins and Him dying in our place. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. In those days, God used everything as a promise of what was to come. Things were done symbolically to show God that we loved Him and honored Him and that is how he knew they were His people, just as we know today that we are His through our repentence of sin and acceptance of His Son, Jesus, into our hearts. Does that help?
as a sidenote: I'm just glad I don't have to go out to a farm and pick out a spotless lamb or goat and go stick a knife in it and burn it up every time I sin. Whew!! Does that take a load off!!
